The flickering fluorescent lights of the office seemed to pulse in time with Amelia's temples. She rubbed her eyes, the familiar grit of exhaustion clinging to them. Another email from the hiring manager. Another delay. She’d been meticulously crafting the perfect cover letter, pouring over her resume, hoping, praying for this marketing position at Everglow. This was her ticket; the chance to finally escape the soul-crushing monotony of her current job.

Her phone buzzed, a text from Sarah: “Coffee after the interview? Fingers crossed!” Amelia slumped in her chair. Sarah, always so optimistic. It was a quality Amelia admired, even as it sometimes grated. She’d see her friend later, and feign enthusiasm. The thought of it was another weight, settled in her chest.

She felt a deep, pervasive fatigue that even the strongest coffee couldn't touch. Her shoulders were hunched, and her posture reflected the heaviness she had come to feel. The interview would be tomorrow, and she felt like she was already exhausted.
